Lockdown Leavers

5 June 2020 (by admin)

As you are all aware, our Year 6 children have missed out on some very important parts of their Coxhoe journey as a result of the current situation.

As a staff, we have worked hard to continue to support our Year 6 children and their families since the partial closure. This has included carefully planned home learning provision, effective communication via the shared mailbox and Twitter, check in phone calls and a friendly visit with their Lockdown SATs treat.
We are also working hard in the background to ensure that secondary schools are providing some transition activities and resources. Please note that Sedgefield have added a tab to the website for transition: it includes some key information. Please also note that we are also liaising with them to request some additional support.  Some of the other schools already have transition underway and are liaising between ourselves and families.  The transition meetings that are always held with staff from both schools are still continuing virtually.
In recent weeks, we have discussed how we provide some of the treasured memories that are normally part of the last few weeks of our children's Coxhoe journey but in an adapted format: we need your help with this planning.  We are going to create a Lockdown Leavers Book for them all to keep as a reminder of their Coxhoe family. Please send a baby photo, a current photo of your child wearing their school uniform and holding up a brief message to all of their Coxhoe family, and finally complete the form that will be included in your home learning grid next week - handwritten.  These must be emailed to school ks2homelearning.coxhoe@durhamlearning.net by Friday 12th June at 4.00pm.   By providing these images and information you are agreeing to them and other Coxhoe school photographs being used in the Lockdown Leavers book and distributed to all children in Year 6.  We will add other photos from their Coxhoe journey too. Please make sure you contact the school office and speak to a member of the Y6 team if you do not wish for your child to be included.
In addition to this, Miss Marsden is going to get creative again and make a Lockdown leaver's video - more information will be coming about this soon.
We will also be visiting our Year 6 children as a team over the coming weeks with a small gift to say thank you for all that they have contributed to our school family. We will be in touch nearer the time so that you know when to look out for us.
Lastly, we cannot allow them to go without a chance to come together and celebrate their Coxhoe achievements because even if the children return to school on the 29th June, they will still only see at the most 7 other friends and one teacher in their year group. We all want the chance to say our goodbyes, staff and children alike.  This cannot yet be planned in any detail due to the nature of the situation. However, we are hoping to organise a socially distanced outdoor gathering in some form.  We await further government guidance in coming weeks to plan this further.
Thank you for your ongoing support, Mrs Bartle and the Year 6 Team
